Why go
Barcelona is the rare big city where you can spend the morning inside a cathedral that looks grown rather than built, and the afternoon in the sea. The Sagrada Familia deserves the ticket and the queue, and it is worth paying for the tower. Park Guell gives you the whole city laid out below. Then the Gothic quarter, which is a medieval maze with very good bars in it, and Barceloneta, where the beach starts where the streets end. Eat late, the city does. Book the Gaudi sites online before you fly, they sell out days ahead in season.
